Yonkers Barber Sentenced to State Prison for Slashing Patron at Local Barbershop

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Westchester County District Attorney Susan Cacace announced today that a Yonkers barber was sentenced to 2 ½ years in state prison for using a straight razor to slash a patron during a violent attack at a barbershop.

The defendant, Jeury Fernandez Navarro, 38, of Yonkers, was sentenced Thursday in Westchester County Court before Judge George Fufidio, who rejected the District Attorney’s Office request for a five-year state prison sentence, with five years of post-release supervision, and instead imposed a lesser sentence of 2 ½ years in state prison, with 1 ½ years of post-release supervision.

The defendant was found guilty on Aug. 18, 2026, following a jury trial of Assault in the Second Degree, a Class D violent felony, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree, a Class A misdemeanor.

DA Cacace said: “The defendant in this case callously and intentionally grabbed a defenseless victim by the head and proceeded to viciously slash him, even as the victim attempted to protect himself. While we respect the Court’s decision, my office firmly believes that a more substantial prison sentence was warranted given the severity and brutality of the defendant’s conduct. We remain committed to advocating for victims and appropriate consequences for those who inflict violence in our communities.”

On Aug. 4, 2025, at approximately 3:21 p.m., the defendant, a barber at a South Broadway barbershop in Yonkers, grabbed the victim, a patron seated in another chair, by the hair, forcibly yanked his head back, and held a straight razor to his body. A struggle ensued, during which the defendant forcibly swung the razor at the victim, slashing his arm.

The defendant continued holding the victim by his hair as they exited the establishment, where the attack continued until a member of the Yonkers Police Department arrived at the scene and intervened, stopping the assault.

The defendant was subsequently taken into custody.

The victim was transported to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, where he was treated for a deep laceration to his left forearm that caused damage to his ulnar artery, nerve, and tendon, requiring surgery to repair the injuries.

The investigation was conducted by the Yonkers Police Department.

The case was prosecuted by Bureau Chief Jonathan Strongin and Assistant District Attorney Samantha Murphy, both of the Trials Division.
