Mount Vernon Man Sentenced to 6 Years in State Prison for Firearms, Burglary Charges

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Westchester County District Attorney Susan Cacace announced today that a Mount Vernon man was sentenced to six years in state prison on charges stemming from the theft and subsequent sale of numerous firearms in 2025.
The defendant, Zaid Lewis, 33, was sentenced Thursday before Judge George Fufidio in Westchester County Court to six years in state prison, with five years of post-release supervision.
He pleaded guilty on July 23, 2026, to Criminal Sale of a Firearm in the First Degree, a Class B violent felony, Criminal Sale of a Firearm in the Third Degree, a class D violent felony, and two counts of Burglary in the Third Degree, Class D felonies.
DA Cacace said: “We cannot overstate the importance of working with our law enforcement partners on these comprehensive investigations, not only to remove stolen firearms from our streets, but also to hold accountable those who fuel the unlawful sale of these guns in our community. Every illegal firearm that remains on our streets poses a serious threat to public safety, and removing these weapons before they can be used to inflict further harm is critical to protecting our residents. There is no doubt that this multi-agency investigation has helped prevent further violence and avert tragedy.”
Between September and November 2025, the defendant broke into multiple units within a New Rochelle storage facility and stole various items, including three firearms, several boxes of ammunition, pistol holders, and other personal property such as clothing, shoes, and jewelry. The defendant subsequently sold a total of four firearms in Mount Vernon, including the three that had been stolen from the storage units: a .38-caliber Ruger revolver, a 9mm Glock 19 handgun, and a 9mm SIG Sauer handgun.
The defendant was arrested on Sept. 26, 2025, following a collaborative, multi-agency investigation involving the New Rochelle Police Department, New York State Police, the New York City Police Department, the Westchester County Department of Public Safety, and the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office High Technology Crime Squad.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Mathieu Reno and Leigh Wellington, both of the Trials Division.
