October 29, 2026
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Westchester County District Attorney Susan Cacace announced today that a New Rochelle man was convicted of repeatedly stabbing a pedestrian during a 2025 knifepoint robbery in New Rochelle.
A Westchester County jury on Thursday found the defendant, Kevin Lopez, 41, guilty before Judge Maurice Williams of the following charges:
- Attempted Murder in the Second Degree: Class B Felony
- Robbery in the First Degree: Class B Felony
- Attempted Assault in the First Degree: Class C Felony
- Assault in the Second Degree: Class D Felony
- Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree: Class D Felony
The defendant, a violent predicate offender, is currently remanded at the Westchester County Jail and faces up to 25 years in state prison. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 11, 2026.
DA Cacace said: “The victim in this case was simply trying to make his way home when the defendant, a violent predicate offender, ambushed him at knifepoint, robbed him, and viciously stabbed him multiple times. I welcome the jury’s verdict, which holds the defendant accountable for this brazen act of violence against a defenseless pedestrian, and applaud Major Case Bureau prosecutors Rachel Ehrhardt and Caroline Zicca for their rigorous work in securing this conviction.”
On July 30, 2025, at approximately 10 p.m., the defendant approached the victim from behind on the Centre Avenue Bridge over I-95 in New Rochelle, brandished a utility knife, and demanded money. The victim handed the defendant $100 in cash, which the defendant took before pushing the victim to the ground and repeatedly stabbing him in the face, neck, abdomen, and left arm.
The defendant fled the scene, where law enforcement later recovered his license.
The victim went to an area hospital, where he received stitches for lacerations on his face, neck, abdomen, and left arm, as well as treatment for a jugular hematoma.
The New Rochelle Police Department, which handled the investigation, arrested the defendant at his home on Aug. 8, 2025. The knife used in the stabbing was recovered.
The Westchester County Department of Laboratories and Research assisted in the investigation.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Rachel Ehrhardt and Caroline Zicca, both of the Major Case Bureau, with assistance from Assistant District Attorney Leigh Wellington.
