Nov. 22, 2022 – Westchester County District Attorney Miriam E. Rocah announced that Yonkers resident Joseph Tejera, 19, was indicted on charges connected with the Oct. 2022 shooting of a 15-year-old in Yonkers. The defendant is being held without bail.
The defendant was arraigned before Judge Anne Minihan in Westchester County Court on Nov. 22, 2022 and indicted by a Westchester County Grand Jury for Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Assault in the First Degree, Assault in the Second Degree, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, all violent felonies.
On Oct. 26, 2022, at approximately 10:22 p.m., the defendant allegedly fired three shots at the victim, striking him two times, on Woodworth Avenue in Yonkers. The victim was transported to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, where he underwent emergency medical treatment.
The Yonkers Police Department arrested the defendant in the Bronx on Nov. 2, 2022, following an investigation. The case is before Judge Anne Minihan in Westchester County Court, and is being prosecuted by the Violent Criminal Enterprise Bureau of the Trials and Investigations Division.
The charges against the defendant are merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
