DA Cacace and NYSP Announce Resumption of D.A.S.H. Traffic Safety Initiative
The initiative will involve increased patrols on the NYS Thruway, which includes I-87, I-287, and I-95
June 3, 2026
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Westchester County District Attorney Susan Cacace and New York State Police Troop T Commander Major Kyle J. Kroeger announced today the resumption of the DASH traffic safety initiative, a traffic safety program aimed at making the highways in Westchester safer to travel.
The focus for the latest campaign of the District Attorney's Safer Highways (D.A.S.H.) program will feature increased State Police patrols on the NYS Thruway within Westchester County, including I-87, I-287, and I-95. Starting tomorrow and proceeding through early July, Troop T will have enhanced enforcement along these roadways to target dangerous driving behaviors. Such enforcement aims to combat motorists engaged in speeding, alcohol or drug-impaired operation, and distracted driving. Troopers will also target lack of seatbelts/restraints, failure to obey the Move Over Law, and other vehicle and traffic law violations.
February’s DASH initiative, which was conducted with Troop K on the Sprain Brook Parkway and I-684, was considered a tremendous success. Some highlights include:
- Multiple felony arrests (up from 0 during the prior month)
- 18 misdemeanor arrests (up from 3 during the prior month)
- 4 DWI arrests
- 16 cars impounded
- 2 firearms recovered
- 269 grams of cocaine recovered
- 59 grams of heroin recovered
DA Cacace said: “As we enter prom and graduation season and that time of year where the weather improves and there are inevitably more drivers on the road, this is a good time to reinstitute our DASH initiative. Along with our partners in the New York State Police, we look to follow up on the success of our last traffic safety initiative that we conducted in February. Our ultimate goal is to keep all our Westchester roads as safe as possible.”
Major Kroeger said: “A core mission of the New York State Police is to ensure the safety of the state’s roadways, and we are committed to this important responsibility every day. Special enforcement programs such as the DASH initiative are important tools in deterring dangerous driving behaviors and removing reckless motorists from our highways. Safe driving saves lives. We are pleased to partner with District Attorney Cacace in putting this enhanced spotlight on public safety.”
