Defendant: William Arias-Abril (DOB: 02/10/1981)

July 17, 2019 -- Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced that William Arias-Abril of Peekskill was sentenced to six years in state prison for raping a teenager. Westchester County Court Judge Susan Cacace handed down the sentence yesterday (Tuesday, July 16).

Arias-Abril pleaded guilty May 21, 2019, to two counts of Rape in the Third Degree, class E felonies. He was sentenced to three years in state prison on each count to run consecutively.

Background
On Jan. 12, 2019, the 16-year-old child victim reported to the Peekskill Police Department she had been raped by William Arias-Abril. The conduct began in May 2018 and continued until January 2019. When Arias-Abril became aware that the victim went to the police, he fled to Connecticut. On Jan. 16, 2019, the Peekskill Police Department, along with the FBI NY Safe Streets Taskforce and the Danbury Police Department, arrested the defendant in Danbury, Connecticut. Arias-Abril was taken into custody and he waived extradition to New York Jan. 29, 2019.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Amit Parab of the Special Prosecutions Division.
