Somers Man Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison for Domestic Violence Assault

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Westchester County District Attorney Susan Cacace announced yesterday that Heriberto Andujar, 52-years old of Somers, was sentenced to 10 years in state prison, followed by 5 years of post-release supervision. This sentencing was in connection to a horrific domestic violence assault which occurred in December of 2024. Andujar was sentenced by Judge James McCarty.
Heriberto Andujar, also known as Eric Andujar, pleaded guilty in January to Assault in the 1st Degree, a class B violent felony. Andujar is a former police officer with the City of Yonkers Police Department. He served with the Yonkers Police Department from August 2001 until February 2004 when he resigned in lieu of termination. Andujar’s resignation was spurred by his arrest in an unrelated domestic violence incident. Andujar pleaded guilty to Harassment in the 2nd Degree in connection to this 2004 incident.
On December 5, 2024, New York State Police responded to a home in Somers on a report of a possible domestic violence stabbing. Upon arrival, Trooper David Meireles made entry into the home after he heard screams from the victim inside. Upon entry into the home, Trooper Meireles was confronted by Andujar, who was armed with a screwdriver and covered in blood. Andujar then attacked Trooper Meireles and attempted to stab him several times.
Trooper Meireles, along with responding backup officers, was eventually able to subdue Andujar. It was later determined that Andujar stabbed the victim in the head, neck and body with the screwdriver approximately 15 times.
DA Cacace said: “The actions of Mr. Andujar were nothing short of cowardly and despicable. However, the real story behind this shocking incident is ultimately one of strength and bravery. The victim in this case showed true courage in standing up to Andujar and ending the violent cycle of domestic abuse. We also saw extreme bravery in the actions of State Trooper David Meireles who after hearing the screams of the victim, and unable to wait for backup officers, forced his way into the home and prevented Andujar from killing his victim."
In her impact statement, the victim poignantly stated: “Today I am in this courtroom not only as your victim, but as a survivor from your brutal attack. Justice must ensure that you can never hurt us or anyone else again. You will live with the consequences of your actions.”
The investigation was handled by the New York State Police (NYSP.) For his heroic, life-saving actions, Trooper David Meireles was honored by Westchester County and the NYSP during National Police Week in May 2025.
The case was prosecuted by Domestic Violence Bureau Chief Joyce Miller and ADA Daniel Pisahov.
