WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Westchester County District Attorney Miriam E. Rocah announced today that an Elmsford Police Department officer was arrested and charged with stealing more than $15,000 in cash that was turned in to the Elmsford Police Department while he was on duty.

The defendant, Douglas Ramirez, 44, of Mahopac, New York, was arraigned today in Elmsford Village Court before Judge Jay S. Beilat and charged with Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, a felony, and Official Misconduct, a misdemeanor. The defendant’s next court date is Oct. 25.

At approximately 3:00 p.m. on July 27, it is alleged that the defendant, while on duty, accepted a sealed package turned in to the front desk of the Elmsford Police Department. After opening the package and discovering the contents, the defendant allegedly stole the $15,500.
