Defendant: Abe Massa (DOB 12/30/88)

Oct. 11, 2018 -- Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced Abe Massa of Port Chester was arraigned this afternoon following an incident last night at his home where he fired a shotgun and his family called police. Massa is charged with Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree, a class D felony.

Westchester County Court Judge Larry Schwartz presided over the arraignment in the Westchester County Medical Center where Massa was taken last night.

Massa was remanded into custody and the matter was adjourned until Oct. 15, 2018.

Background
The felony complaint alleges, around 5p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 10), Massa pointed a loaded shotgun at the ceiling and fired one shot while in the presence of his mother. He later pointed the loaded shotgun at her, and, fired a second shot into a wall. 

Port Chester Police responded to the location on Willet Avenue and safely removed three children and an adult from the house. While police were inside the building, they heard a gunshot from somewhere inside. Police located Massa and his mother. They were able to disarm Massa and place him under arrest without incident. Massa was subsequently transported to the Westchester County Medical Center.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Christine Cervasio of the Special Prosecutions Division.
