WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Westchester County District Attorney Miriam E. Rocah announced today that a Mount Vernon man was sentenced to an indeterminate term of seven to 14 years in state prison for multiple residential burglaries in Mount Vernon.

DA Rocah said: “Home burglaries degrade our quality of life and violate our sense of security in our neighborhoods. This defendant is a serial burglar who demonstrated that he would continue his crimes until he was stopped and faced consequences. My Office will continue to work on property crime prevention with our local police in order to safeguard homeowners and residents across Westchester.”

The defendant, Nathaniel Gordon, 65, of Mount Vernon, pleaded guilty on Sept. 28 to two felony counts of Burglary in the Third Degree. The defendant was sentenced as a second felony offender to two consecutive indeterminate terms of 3½ to seven years in state prison.

At approximately 11:56 a.m. on Jan. 3, the defendant unlawfully entered a multi-family residence on South 10th Avenue in Mount Vernon and stole a box of cookware. The defendant, who was captured on a home security video entering and leaving the property, returned to the same residence that day and stole a bag of tools.

The defendant unlawfully entered another home on South 7th Avenue in Mount Vernon through a basement window and stole three laptops and a laptop bag at approximately 6:44 a.m. on Jan. 20. The defendant was captured again on a home security video walking down the driveway toward the property’s basement window, and then walking out to the street minutes later carrying the stolen items.

The Mount Vernon Police Department initiated an investigation after receiving reports of attempted break-ins at other residences in Mount Vernon. Police arrested the defendant on Jan. 20 after he was identified in home security system videos obtained during the investigation. At the time of his arrest, the defendant was wearing the same jacket seen in the video recordings.

The case was before Judge James McCarty in Westchester County Court and prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Leigh Wellington of the Trials and Investigations Division.
