Defendant: Johnny David Machado (DOB 10/07/92)

Nov. 19, 2020 -- Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced that Johnny Machado of Hastings-on-Hudson pleaded guilty in the fatal hit-and-run crash that killed an elderly Dobbs Ferry man in Sept. 2019.

Specifically, Machado appeared Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2020, before State Supreme Court Justice Barry Warhit and pleaded guilty to both charges for which he was indicted:

  • Leaving the Scene of an Accident without Reporting, a class D felony
  • Criminally Negligent Homicide, a class E felony

Sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 25, 2021.

Background
On Sept. 20, 2019, Johnny Machado drove near Dobbs Ferry High School on Broadway, Route 9, in Dobbs Ferry when his car struck a pedestrian in the crosswalk. The victim was 91-year-old Rocco DePaolo, who attended a high school football game and was walking home around 9:25 p.m. DePaolo was taken to Westchester County Medical Center where he died from his injuries. Machado drove away after hitting Mr. DePaolo.

Assistant District Attorney Nadine Nagler, a bureau chief in the Superior Court Trial Division, prosecuted the case.
