Defendant: George Smith  (DOB  09/24/89)

Nov. 20, 2018 -- Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced the arraignment of George Smith of Mount Vernon on a series of charges related to a stolen vehicle, a high-speed chase with police and ramming a police cruiser Sunday, Nov. 18, 2018. Smith appeared in Mount Vernon City Court today and was remanded into custody in Westchester County Jail.

Smith is charged with the following:

  • Assault in the Second Degree, a class D felony
  • Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Third Degree, a class D felony
  • Reckless endangerment in the First Degree, a class D felony

Westchester County Police arrested Smith Sunday morning after leading police on a chase that took them from Mount Vernon into the Bronx.

Around 9:30 a.m., Westchester County Police alerted Mount Vernon Police that a stolen car was being driven in the city. MVPD tried to stop the vehicle, which drove away, entering the Hutchinson River Parkway southbound. As police pursued, eight minutes into the chase, the defendant’s vehicle rammed into a Westchester County Police patrol car.

Police stopped the stolen vehicle near 4230 Boston Post Road, the Bronx. More than an hour later, Westchester County Police found Smith in the same area and took him into custody.

Smith’s next court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 3, 2018, in Mount Vernon City Court.
