WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Westchester County District Attorney Susan Cacace announced today that Yonkers resident Ahmed Al Jabali was sentenced to six years in state prison and three years of post-release supervision for his vicious, antisemitic assault on a Jewish barber in Yonkers.

Al Jabali was sentenced today by Judge James McCarty. He pleaded guilty in April to Assault in the Second Degree as a Hate Crime, a class C violent felony.

DA Cacace said: “The Westchester County District Attorney’s Office will continue to prioritize combatting antisemitism and all hate crimes. There will be no tolerance for this type of despicable behavior in our community.”

On August 29, 2024, Al Jabali entered the Yonkers barbershop of Slava Shushakov and asked for a shave. Al Jabali grabbed a pair of barber’s shears and called Shushakov an “[expletive] Jew.” He then repeatedly attempted to stab Shushakov, slashing him in the arm and hand several times, all while yelling antisemitic slurs.

The investigation was conducted by the Yonkers Police Department.

DThe case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Elizabeth Shumejda and Luis Felix.

DA Cacace thanks all those who worked on this case for their efforts.
