May 2, 2023 – Westchester County District Attorney Miriam E. Rocah announced today prison sentences for three additional defendants involved in a 2021 violent gang assault in Yonkers with the “300 Bloodhound Brims” street gang that left a man with severe brain injuries.

DA Rocah said: “The victim, who survived this vicious assault in the middle of our largest city in Westchester, continues to face a difficult recovery. The prosecutions and sentences in this case demonstrate our commitment to holding violent offenders accountable.”

  • Vance Major, 23, was sentenced on May 1, 2023, before Judge James McCarty, to eight years in state prison, with five years of post-release supervision, after pleading guilty to Gang Assault in the Second Degree.
  • Drayquan Green, 21, was sentenced on January 20, 2023, before Judge Robert Neary to five years in state prison, with five years of post-release supervision, after pleading guilty to Gang Assault in the First Degree.
  • Develle Coates, 21, was sentenced on January 13, 2023, before Judge Neary, to 12 years in state prison, with five years of post-release supervision. Following aweeklong trial, a jury on November 3, 2022, found the defendant guilty of Gang Assault in the First Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree.

On June 17, 2021, at approximately 9 p.m., Major, along with two defendants, who were convicted and each sentenced to eight years in state prison in 2022, followed the 33-year-old victim into a convenience store on North Broadway in Yonkers, confronted him and then left the store. Major hit the victim in the shoulder with a glass liquor bottle as he exited the store and the three defendants chased the victim as he ran away. Coates then jumped out from behind a car and smashed the victim in the head with another glass liquor bottle, rendering the victim unconscious. The attack on the victim continued as he was repeatedly struck and kicked to the head and body by multiple individuals, including Green. During the attack, which was caught on surveillance video, jewelry was stolen from the unconscious victim.

The victim, who was transported to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, suffered protracted disfigurement, facial scarring, multiple lost or chipped teeth, and was diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury. The victim continues to suffer from short-term memory loss, brain fog, and takes anti-seizure medication, in addition to medication for migraines which he now regularly endures.

Nine other defendants involved in the incident were arrested, convicted and sentenced. The joint investigation was conducted by the Yonkers Police Department, the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office, the FBI’s Westchester Safe Streets Task Force, the Westchester County Department of Laboratories and Research, and the United States Office of Probation.

These cases were prosecuted by the Violent Criminal Enterprise Bureau of the Trials and Investigations Division.
