Today is Juneteenth, a day to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States. It seems even more relevant this year with an overarching national call to end racism and injustice in America. It’s a day to commit once again, as President Obama said, “to the work that remains undone.” And think about his reminder “that even in the darkest hours, there is cause to hope for tomorrow’s light.” I cannot agree more.
At this time, we also support Gov. Cuomo’s call for an annual state holiday on June 19th, to celebrate the end to slavery and recommit to justice and equality for all.
