Defendant: Junior Silverio-Ventura (DOB 12/22/96)
July 2, 2018 -- Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced the sentencing of a Yonkers man for the hit-and-run death of 18-year-old Zachary Dunn, also of Yonkers, in Sept. 2016.
Junior Silverio-Ventura was sentenced to serve six months in County jail (starting today) and five-years probation. Silverio-Ventura was 19 at the time of the accident. He pleaded guilty March 26, 2018, to a charge of Criminally Negligent Homicide, a class E felony.
Background:
Prosecutors say, Silverio-Ventura was driving on the Saw Mill River Parkway near the McLean Avenue exit in Yonkers in the early morning hours of Labor Day Sept. 5, 2016, when his car crashed into the rear end of Dunn’s disabled vehicle. Dunn and a passenger were in the car. Dunn was critically injured and died later. His passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The defendant drove away from the scene of the crash.
Silverio-Ventura was returning to Yonkers from a night out in Manhattan with a group of friends in three cars at the time of the accident. The Acura he was driving was unregistered.
Westchester County Police and Yonkers Police investigated the crash. Assistant District Attorney Brian Bendish prosecuted the case.
