Defendant: Raheem Nelson (03/16/1996)

Aug. 10, 2018 -- Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. today announced Raheem Nelson has been arraigned in Yonkers City Court for charges related to two random stabbings in the City of Yonkers, one in March and one this week. The defendant was arrested by Yonkers Police yesterday (Thurs. Aug. 9, 2018).

Specifically, Nelson is charged with Attempted Murder in the Second Degree and Assault in the First Degree, both B violent felonies, in the incident this week where a man was attacked on Riverview Place. He is also charged with Attempted Assault in the First Degree, a class C violent felony, and Assault in the Second Degree, a class D violent felony, for another attack in March on an elderly man.

Nelson has been remanded into custody at Westchester County Jail and is scheduled to appear in Yonkers City Court Aug. 28, 2018.

Background
Prosecutors allege, on Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2018 at 1:12 p.m. near 6 Riverview Place, Raheem Nelson encountered a man on the street and stabbed him. While injured, the victim managed to walk into a building and call police. The victim was taken to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx with life-threatening injuries.

A surveillance video showed Nelson during this incident and police were able to identify him from the video. Nelson had been arrested in July for another incident and was released on bail.

Nelson was also charged today in connection with an incident March 7, 2018, where he stabbed an elderly man who was shoveling snow at night. The victim suffered wounds to his hand and shoulder and was treated and released at St. John's Riverside Hospital.

Assistant District Attorney Matt McCarty and Deputy District Attorney Timothy Ward, both of the Superior Court Trial Division, are prosecuting the case.
