Defendant: Akeem Palmer (DOB 10/04/96)

April 28, 2020 -- Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced Akeem Palmer of Mount Vernon was charged in the Sunday murder of a Mount Vernon man.

Palmer was arraigned Tuesday before Judge Reginald Johnson. He is charged with Murder in the Second Degree, a class A-1 violent felony, and was remanded into custody. The case was adjourned for a felony hearing in Mount Vernon City Court May 12, 2020.

Background
Prosecutors allege Akeem Palmer shot 23-year-old Ryan Solomon Sunday afternoon (4/26) at a residence on South Third Avenue in Mount Vernon. Solomon was seriously wounded in the torso but called 911. Police and EMTs responded and rushed Solomon to the hospital. He died at approximately 5:30 p.m.

Palmer fled the area but surrendered to the Mount Vernon Police Department Sunday night.

Assistant District Attorneys Lana Hochheiser, Deputy Chief of the Homicide Bureau, and Daniel Davis, both of the Superior Court Trial Division are prosecuting the case.
