April 24, 2018 -- Eastchester Police with the assistance of the Westchester County District Attorney’s Investigations Division and Yonkers Police have arrested and charged two Bronx men for stealing over $500,000 in cash and jewelry from an apartment on Garth Road in the north end of Eastchester.

Asan Sefuloski, 28, of Mace Avenue, and Morris Santaniello, 64, of Belmont Avenue, are charged with Grand Larceny in the Second Degree, a class C felony, and Burglary in the Second Degree, a class C felony.

On April 11, 2018, our Department was notified of a residential burglary in an apartment located on Garth Road. The victim advised us that a safe containing a large amount of cash was stolen from inside the residence as well as jewelry and other property. Detectives secured and processed the scene and began to develop information relating to the burglary.  With the assistance of the D.A.’s Investigations Division and Yonkers Police Detectives, information was developed and suspects were identified.

On April 12, 2018, investigators with tactical support from the Eastchester Police Emergency Response Unit executed a search warrant in the Bronx resulting in the arrest of one suspect and the recovery of a Tec-9 Semi-Automatic 9mm pistol with a high-capacity magazine, a large amount of jewelry, and $500,000 in U.S. currency.

Further information was developed and a second search warrant was executed in the Bronx, which also uncovered evidence, as well as the arrest of the second suspect. Further warrants including those for banking records were issued. In all, a total of five search warrants were acted upon.

Sefuloski was arraigned April 12, 2018, and was freed on $100,000.00 cash bail. If convicted, he faces 15 years in prison. Santaniello was arraigned April 13, 2018, and was remanded into custody based on four prior felony convictions. If convicted of this crime, he faces 25 years to life in prison. They are scheduled to appear in Westchester County Court June 20, 2018.

Emergency Response Unit involved in the investigation and execution of the search warrants deserve a great deal of credit. The excellent Police Work resulted in the quick apprehension of the suspects , as well as the recovery of a large amount of property and the recovery of an illegal gun. The investigators did an excellent job of putting all the pieces together and their hard work paide off. The assistance of the Westchester County D.A.’s Office and Yonkers P.D. was instrumental in the investigation, and shows the excellent results we can achieve when working together.”

Upon the arrests and recovery of stolen goods, Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. said: “With the arraignment of these two burglars, we commend the collaboration of the Eastchester Police Department and the Pattern Crimes Unit of the District Attorney’s Investigations Division, along with the Yonkers Police Department. In addition to these arrests, this exemplary police work by detectives, investigators, prosecutors and analysts has resulted in the recovery of over $400,000 of the half-million dollars that was stolen.”
