Defendant: Trey McDowell (DOB: 07/14/88)

Oct. 4, 2019 -- Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced Trey McDowell of New Rochelle pleaded guilty to attempted burglary stemming from residential burglaries in Mount Vernon and New Rochelle. State Supreme Court Justice Barry Warhit accepted the plea.

Specifically, McDowell pleaded guilty, as a persistent violent felony offender, to two counts of Attempted Burglary in the Second Degree, class D violent felonies. He is scheduled for sentencing Jan. 30, 2020.

Background
After a series of New Rochelle residential burglaries in 2018, the New Rochelle Police Department, having identified the defendant and the red Honda Accord used by him, began surveillance of the defendant and that vehicle. During that time, the Mount Vernon Police Department identified the red Honda Accord as having been used by a residential burglar in their city Nov. 27, 2018.

On Jan. 2, 2019, New Rochelle Police found the red Honda outside an apartment building and observed McDowell inside the victim’s apartment closing a window. Police then observed him leaving the building, entering the red Accord and driving away. Shortly thereafter, police pulled McDowell over in the car and found the victim’s property both on his person and in his vehicle. He was immediately arrested.

McDowell was subsequently indicted for the New Rochelle burglary and the Mount Vernon burglary.

In addition to being a serial burglar, McDowell was previously convicted of three violent felony offenses in Westchester County and New York City. At the time of this most recent arrest, McDowell was on parole for a 2013 Attempted Robbery in the Second Degree committed in Yonkers.

Assistant District Attorney Joseph DiBenedetto, Deputy Chief of the Organized Crime Bureau and the Pattern Crime Unit, assisted in the investigation of this case; and Assistant District Attorneys Kerrie Williams, Deputy Chief of the Sex Crimes Bureau, and Celia Curtis of the Investigations Division prosecuted the case.
