Oct. 13, 2016 -- Acting Westchester County District Attorney James A. McCarty announced that Robert Daniels (DOB 12/27/88) of 95-117 Ravine Ave., Yonkers, NY was arraigned today on an indictment charging him with:

  • two counts of Murder in the Second Degree, class “A” Felonies,
  • two counts of Attempted Robbery in the First Degree, class “C” Felonies,
  • one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a class “C” Felony,
  • one count of Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, a Violation

in the death of Joseph Huguet.

On May 31, 2016 at approximately 8:47 p.m., the victim was in Doyle Park when the defendant attempted to rob him at gunpoint. The victim refused to turn over his personal property. That is when the defendant shot him multiple times using a .380 caliber semi-automatic pistol. The defendant then ran out of the park.

Yonkers Police as well as an ambulance responded to the location. The victim was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy conducted by the Medical Examiner’s office revealed that the victim suffered bullet wounds to the neck and torso with lacerations of the heart, lung, and liver as well as internal bleeding.

An intensive investigation by the Yonkers Police Department led to the defendant’s arrest on June 2, 2016. At the time of the arrest the defendant was found to be in possession of marijuana.

The defendant pled not guilty and was remanded.

His next court date is Oct. 25, 2016.

The defendant faces a maximum of twenty-five years to life in state prison.

Assistant District Attorney Nicholas DiCostanzo of the Superior Court Trial Division is prosecuting the case.
