Defendant: William Hines (DOB 11/20/1967)

March 3, 2020 -- Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced that William Hines will serve 11.5 to 20.5 years in state prison for robbing three victims and assaulting one of them.

In December, Hines was found guilty following a jury trial before County Court Judge Anne Minihan.

Specifically, Hines was sentenced to the following:

  • Count 1: Robbery Second Degree: seven years in state prison
  • Count 2: Assault Second Degree: five years in state prison
  • Count 3: Grand Larceny Fourth Degree: two to four years in state prison
  • Count 4: CPSP Fifth Degree: one year in WC jail
  • Count 5: Robbery Third Degree: two and a half to five years in state prison

Counts 1 and 2 will run concurrently (seven years in total) plus count 3 plus count 5 consecutively, for a total of 11.5 to 20.5 years in state prison. The jail term will be served concurrently.

Background
On three different days, William Hines robbed three victims in Yonkers and assaulted one of them. On Jan. 6, 2019, at approximately 5:40 p.m., in the area of Palisade Avenue and Walsh Road, Hines stole money from an 11-year-old boy.
On Feb. 4, 2019, at approximately 12:30 a.m., on Elm Street, Hines forcibly stole money from the victim. During the course of the robbery, he repeatedly punched the victim in the face, which required hospitalization.
In the third crime, Feb. 12, 2019, he forcibly stole money from the victim on Ashburton Avenue.

Assistant District Attorney John Astarita of the Superior Court Trial Division prosecuted the case.
