Sept. 6, 2017 -- Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced today that Joseph Abraham (DOB 02/24/63) of 59 Van Cortlandt Park Avenue, Yonkers, NY was arraigned before Judge Anne Minihan on a grand jury indictment charging him with:

  • one count of Murder in the Second Degree, a class “A” Felony
  • two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree, class “A” Misdemeanors

in the death of his wife, Amanda Trenck Abraham (DOB 05/24/91).

On May 21, 2017 at approximately 1:30 a.m., an argument broke out between the defendant and the victim in their apartment located at 59 Van Cortlandt Park Avenue in Yonkers.  

At approximately, 9:00 a.m., the defendant was found unconscious in the bathtub. It was filled with blood and water. Cuts were visible on both of his wrists and the right side of his neck. The body of the victim was in their bedroom. She was slumped over the bed with a large amount of blood visible around her.

Emergency services responded to the location. The defendant was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Yonkers for treatment. The victim was declared dead at the scene. Two knives were recovered at the scene.

Yonkers detectives arrived at the hospital to interview the defendant. He was read his Miranda warnings. He was arrested and charged with the victim’s death.

 The Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the cause of the victim’s death was sharp force injuries of the neck, chest and upper extremities involving ribs, jugular veins and lungs.

During today’s court proceeding, the defendant pled not guilty.

His remand continues. 

His next court date is Sept. 21, 2017.

He faces twenty-five years to life in state prison.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Jonathan Strongin of the Superior Court Trial Division.
