May 17, 2013 -- Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore announced that Olivier Famby (DOB 08/05/92) of 62 Dewitt Place, New Rochelle, New York, pled guilty today to:

  • nine counts of Robbery in the First Degree, class “B” Felonies,
  • one count of Assault in the Second Degree, a class “D” Felony,
  • one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree, a class “A” Misdemeanor,
  • one count of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 5th Degree, a class “A” Misdemeanor,

relating to multiple armed robberies in lower Westchester County.

On April 27, 2012, approximately 5:20 a.m., in the vicinity of 116 Corlies Place, Pelham police approached an illegally parked vehicle in order to write a summons.

The officer noticed that there was an individual in the front passenger seat with the seat reclined. The officer engaged in a conversation with the defendant at which time defendant gave inconsistent stories as to why he was in the area.

The officer noticed that the defendant was dressed in all black clothing and that he fit the description of an individual wanted in the area for a number of robberies. The officer noticed in plain sight a .32 caliber handgun and black gloves on the driver’s side floor board as well as a black mask and black boots on the passenger’s side floor board.

The officer called for backup and the defendant was handcuffed without incident.

A warrant was obtained for the vehicle and recovered from the vehicle were an assortment of property believed to be robbery proceeds.

The firearm had been reported stolen out of Pennsylvania in 2011.

The defendant pled guilty to strong arm robberies in these five lower Westchester communities:

  • on 1/12/12 – Robbery in the 1st Degree in Pelham,
  • on 1/17/12 – Robbery in the 1st Degree in the Town of Mamaroneck,
  • on 1/29/12 – Robbery in the 1st Degree in New Rochelle, two victims,
  • on 1/31/12 – Robbery in the 1st Degree in Pelham,
  • on 2/09/12 – Robbery in the 1st Degree in the Village of Mamaroneck,
  • on 2/09/12 – Robbery in the 1st Degree in Harrison,
  • on 3/28/12 – Robbery in the 1st Degree in Pelham,
  • on 4/09/12 – Robbery in the 1st Degree in Harrison.

“Alert policing by a police officer on routine patrol ended a robbery spree targeting Westchester commuters that was becoming increasingly more violent,” said District Attorney Janet DiFiore after the defendant pled guilty. “Although some of the robberies occurred late at night, others were in the evening with the victims walking home from train stations, emphasizing why one should always be mindful of their surroundings and not focused on texting or talking on the phone.”

Sentencing will be on July 16, 2013.

The defendant faces a maximum sentence of twenty five years in state prison.

Assistant District Attorney Jonathan Strongin of the Superior Court Trial Division prosecuted the case.
