June 3, 2013 -- Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore announced that English Thomas (DOB 07/27/83) of 762 Northern Parkway, Uniondale, New York was sentenced today to twenty five years to life in state prison on his February 2013 conviction to:

  • one count of Murder in the Second Degree, a class "A" Felony,
  • one count of Assault in the First Degree, a class "B" Felony,
  • one count of Burglary in the First Degree, a class "B" Felony,
  • one count of Tampering with Physical Evidence, a class "E" Felony,

in connection with the murder of Sandra Hackley and the shootings of her husband Rafael Cornielle and 12 year old daughter.

Co-conspirators, Charles Parsley (DOB 01/30/84) of 19 Old Mill Court, Rockville Centre, New York and Kasaun White (DOB 09/26/82) of 21 Old Mill Court, Rockville Centre, New York had previously been convicted and each sentenced to 75 years to life in state prison.

On Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at shortly before 7:30 pm, the victim, Sandra Hackley, arrived home at her apartment with her husband and two daughters.

Thereafter, one of the defendants was recorded on video surveillance entering the apartment building under the ruse of delivering a package to Ms. Hackley.

Additional video surveillance in the lobby showed that the second defendant had previously entered the apartment building and secreted himself in an area near Ms. Hackley's apartment.

On several occasions, another defendant appeared to be pacing back and forth in the building's lobby and looking out towards the street, prior to the arrival of Ms. Hackley, her family and his accomplice.

When the victim's husband opened the apartment door to accept the "delivery", the two gunmen pushed their way into the apartment and fired their handguns.

The victim's husband was shot multiple times in the doorway and fled to the street.

Ms. Hackley was shot five times in the living room and died at the scene. Her twelve year old daughter was shot once in the leg.

The gunmen fled through the front door of the building, out onto Yonkers Avenue, where witnesses saw them enter a dark colored pick up truck operated by Thomas and flee.

An extensive investigation was initiated by detectives from the Yonkers Police Department in which they developed information leading them to the three suspects in Nassau County.

Assistant District Attorney Fredric I. Green and Assistant District Attorney Julia Cornachio of the Superior Court Trial Division prosecuted the case.
