April 8, 2013 -- Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore announced that Christopher Howson (DOB 08/16/63) of 127 New Broadway, Sleepy Hollow, New York was arraigned today on a two-count indictment charging him with:

  • one count of Murder in the Second Degree, a class “A-1” Felony,
  • one count of Strangulation in the First Degree, a class “C” Felony,

relating to the death of Theresa Gorski.

On Jan. 5, 2013, at approximately 3:00 am, the defendant, a computer software programmer who was doing freelance work from home, called 911 stating that he had just strangled his wife, a part time staff attorney for Bronx Legal Aid Society, and believed that she was dead.

Police and EMS personnel responded and removed the victim to Phelps Memorial Hospital where she remained on a ventilator for four days.

She died on Jan. 9, 2013 when she was taken off life support.

The defendant has been in jail since his arrest. His bail status continues as a remand.

The defendant’s next court date will be on April 25, 2013.

He faces a maximum sentence of twenty-five years to life in state prison.

Assistant District Attorney John O’Rourke, Chief of the Major Case Bureau and Assistant District Attorney Jean Prisco of the Major Case Bureau are prosecuting the case.
