Defendant: Rosa Ramirez (DOB 02/18/91)

Sept. 10, 2020 -- Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced that Rosa Ramirez of New York City was sentenced to 17 years to life in prison for the 2018 stabbing death of a coworker in an Irvington restaurant, Bonifacio “Boni” Rodriquez. In February, Ramirez pleaded guilty to Murder in the Second Degree, a class A felony.

Ramirez appeared today before State Supreme Court Justice Barry Warhit. She will serve 17 years to life in state prison.

Rodriquez’s family was in the courtroom for the sentencing. Assistant District Attorney Kerrie Williams read victims’ impact statements from Rodriquez’ wife, Anselma Antonio, who told the court, “My husband was everything to me, he was my partner, my support, my only family. He gave everything for his family.”

ADA Williams also read a statement from one daughter, Kimberley. Their other daughter, Stephanie, read her own painful letter describing how she misses her father. In addition, a letter from the owner of River City Grille, who laid out Rodriquez’s 20-year history with the restaurant, and growth from day laborer to trusted prep cook and friend, was submitted.

Background
On April 10, 2018, Rosa Ramirez was in the River City Grille on Broadway in Irvington. She was in the restaurant kitchen working as a dishwasher along with other kitchen staff. Just after 11 a.m., Ramirez attacked the prep cook, 38-year-old Bonifacio Rodriquez of Yonkers, with a kitchen knife. Rodriquez tried to protect himself but was stabbed multiple times. Another employee in the kitchen attempted to intervene but was also threatened, though not injured.

Irvington Police responded and the victim was taken to Westchester County Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The defendant had only worked at the restaurant for a few days. She was apprehended shortly thereafter in the vicinity of the restaurant. Rodriquez had worked at the restaurant for two decades.

Assistant District Attorneys Laura Murphy, Chief of the Career Criminal Bureau, and Kerrie Williams, Deputy Chief of the Sex Crimes Bureau, both of the Superior Court Trial Division, prosecuted the case.
