Defendant: Steven Hamburg (DOB : 02/16/60)

Sept. 6, 2019 -- Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced Steven Hamburg of the Bronx was arraigned in White Plains City Court on three counts of Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, class D felonies, relating to funds stolen during real estate transactions in the county.

Following the arraignment, Hamburg was released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to return to court Sept. 27, 2019.

Background
The felony complaint alleges, during the period from September 2015 to September 2019, having practiced as an attorney in Westchester County, Steven Hamburg took money from three separate victims in connection with three separate real estate transactions.

  • In the first case, starting in September 2015, Hamburg deposited one victim’s check for $15,000 in his IOLA account. Instead of using the funds for the intended real estate transaction, he stole the money from his victim, a Yonkers resident.
  • In the second case, between February 2017 and September 2019, Hamburg deposited a $50,000 check for a second victim and stole those funds. That victim was a Hartsdale resident.
  • In the third case, starting in May 2017, he deposited a $47,000.00 check from a Dobbs Ferry victim and, subsequently, stole the money.
Hamburg was disbarred from practicing law in 2018.

Assistant District Attorney Brian Fitzgerald, Deputy Bureau Chief of the Investigations Division Public Integrity Bureau, is prosecuting the case.
