Defendant: Antonio Alvarez (DOB: 05/23/70)

Oct. 18, 2019 -- Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced that Antonio Alvarez was sentenced Thursday (10/17) in the Christmas Day stabbing in a Peekskill deli.

In August, Alvarez pleaded guilty to Assault in the First Degree, a class B violent felony.

State Supreme Court Justice Barry Warhit sentenced him to nine years in state prison.

Background
On Dec. 25, 2018 around 10 p.m., the defendant, Antonio Alvarez, was in a deli on South Street in the City of Peekskill with several other men when an altercation broke out. Alvarez attacked another man and stabbed him in the neck with a knife. The victim was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery and survived. 

Alvarez did not have a permanent address and was homeless at the time of the incident.

ADA Brian Bendish of the Superior Court Trial Division prosecuted the case.
