Defendant: Bryan Stamps (DOB 06/10/02)

Oct. 4, 2018 -- Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced that 15-year-old Bryan Stamps of New Rochelle pleaded guilty to Assault in the First Degree, a class B felony, related to a stabbing at New Rochelle High School Jan. 18, 2018. Westchester County Court Judge Barry Warhit accepted the plea.

Stamps has been remanded into custody at Woodfield Cottage in Valhalla. He is scheduled to appear in Westchester County Court for sentencing Jan. 24, 2019. At that time, because of his age, Stamps will be sentenced as a Juvenile Offender to one to three years in state prison.

Background
On Jan. 18, 2018, Stamps stabbed another student inside New Rochelle High School. That student was taken to a hospital trauma unit where he underwent surgery and was treated for serious injuries. Stamps fled New York. After close to four months, the FBI located Stamps in Alabama where he was taken into custody May 14, 2018. He waived extradition to New York two days later. Westchester County Police Warrants Squad picked him up in Alabama and returned him to Westchester County.

Stamps was indicted by a Westchester County Grand Jury April 16, 2018.

Assistant District Attorney Kerrie Williams of the Superior Court Trial Division prosecuted the case.
