Defendant: Preston Thomas (DOB 08/29/73)

Nov. 26, 2018 -- Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced Preston Thomas of Mount Vernon pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the Third Degree, a misdemeanor, for his arrest in April for driving with a false car registration tag.

Thomas was sentenced to one-year conditional discharge immediately upon his plea in Mount Vernon City Court. In addition, he pleaded guilty to Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Vehicle in the Third Degree, driving with a suspended license, a misdemeanor. For that, he also received a conditional discharge that will run concurrently.

Background
Mount Vernon Police arrested Thomas after a traffic stop where an officer noticed a fraudulent New Jersey Temporary registration tag displayed in the defendant’s car. At the time, Thomas’s New York State driver’s license already was suspended.

Assistant District Attorney John Thomas of the Mount Vernon City Court Branch prosecuted the case.
