Defendant: Jose Olmos (DOB 10/20/89)

Nov. 14 2018 -- Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced Jose Olmos, a homeless man living in New Rochelle, was indicted and arraigned for murder in the death of a homeless woman outside a vacant armory building on Main Street.

A Westchester County Grand Jury indicted Olmos on three charges: Murder in the First Degree, a class A violent felony, and two counts of Murder in the Second Degree, also class A felonies, in the beating death of Nurten Seljuk July 27, 2018. Olmos’ next court appearance is Dec. 5, 2018.

If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of life without parole.

Background
Prosecutors allege, in the early hours of Friday, July 27, 2018, Olmos followed 60-year-old Nurten Seljuk for some time in the area of Main Street, New Rochelle. Then, on the property of the vacant Naval Armory at 270 Main St., Olmos robbed his victim and beat her to death. The victim’s body was found later that day. New Rochelle Police arrested Olmos July 28, one day after the murder.

Assistant District Attorneys Christine O’Connor, Chief of the Homicide Division, and Nicholas DiCostanzo of the Superior Court Trial Division are prosecuting the case.
