Defendant: Raheem Nelson (03/16/1996)

Nov. 7, 2018 -- Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced Raheem Nelson of Yonkers was indicted and arraigned on assault and other charges related to two random stabbings in the City of Yonkers in July and August.

A Westchester County Grand Jury handed up a five-count indictment with the following charges:

  • Assault in the First Degree, a class B violent felony
  • Assault in the Second Degree, a class D felony
  • Three misdemeanors: one count of Menacing in the Second Degree, and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree.

Nelson was arraigned before Westchester County Court Judge Larry Schwartz Wednesday and was remanded into custody. His next court appearance is Nov. 28, 2018.

Background
Prosecutors allege on the afternoon of Aug. 7, 2018, Raheem Nelson encountered a man near 6 Riverview Place, Yonkers, and stabbed him with a screwdriver. While injured, the victim managed to walk into a building where a Good Samaritan called police. The victim was taken to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx with life-threatening injuries. He survived. A surveillance video showed Nelson during this incident and police were able to identify him from the video. Yonkers Police arrested Nelson on Thurs. Aug. 9, 2018.

In an earlier incident July 11, 2018, Nelson stabbed his victim with a knife.

Assistant District Attorneys Christine O’Connor, Chief of the Homicide Bureau, and Matthew McCarty of the Superior Court Trial Division are prosecuting the case.
