Defendant: Ronald Jones (DOB 02/24/87)

Oct. 2, 2018 -- Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced that Ronald Jones of Mount Vernon was sentenced to 10 years in state prison for an armed robbery at a Mount Vernon barbershop in October 2017. Jones appeared before Westchester County Court Judge George Fufidio.

Jones pleaded guilty to the following:

  • Three counts of Robbery in the First Degree, class B violent felonies
  • One count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a class C violent felony

On those counts, he was sentenced to four terms of 10 years each to run concurrently (at the same time) with five years of post-release supervision.

Background
On Oct. 7, 2017, Ronald Jones entered a barbershop in Mount Vernon armed with a loaded handgun. Jones robbed three employees of the barbershop while armed with the loaded handgun. At the time of the robbery, two clients in the barbershop were young boys.  A patron of the barbershop, grabbed Jones from behind, and he and employees wrestled Jones to the floor and recovered the gun from Jones.  The patrol and the employees held Jones until the Mount Vernon Police Department responded to the scene.  The Mount Vernon Police recovered the loaded weapon from the scene.

Other Pleas and Sentencing
In an unrelated case, arising out of a check-point traffic stop on Sept. 2, 2017 in Mount Vernon, Jones pleaded guilty to Driving While Intoxicated, a class D felony, as well as Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the First Degree, a class E felony. On each of those counts, he received sentences of one year of incarceration along with fines and a revoked license. Those sentences also will run concurrently.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Laura Murphy, Chief of the Career Criminal Bureau, and Assistant District Attorney Craig Ascher of the Superior Court Trial Division.
