Defendant: Christopher Gonzalez

May 17, 2019 -- Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced that Christopher Gonzalez of the Bronx was arraigned on an indictment on charges of murder in the strangulation death of a Yonkers woman in 2005. Westchester County Court Judge Susan Cacace presided.

Gonzalez was indicted by a Westchester County Grand Jury on the following charges:

• Two counts of Murder in the First Degree
• Three counts of Murder in the Second Degree
• Rape in the First Degree
• Criminal Sexual Act in the First Degree

Gonzalez was remanded into custody. He is due back in court on August 20, 2019.

Background
On September 3, 2005, New York State Police discovered the body of a young female Yonkers resident wrapped in an animal-print sheet on the shoulder of the Sprain Brook Parkway just north of Jackson Avenue. The victim had been strangled and was found to have an injury to the back of her head. After some investigation, the death was linked forensically to a Bronx homicide from 2000. The investigation ensued and eventually, the defendant was identified in both murders through DNA.

The New York State Police and Bronx homicide detectives located Gonzalez in Florida and in 2017 returned him to the Bronx where he was indicted on murder charges in the rape and strangulation death of the Bronx woman. That case is pending trial.

Assistant District Attorneys Julia Cornachio and Nadine Nagler are prosecuting the case.
