Defendant: Paul Overton (DOB 06/17/82)

March 14, 2019 -- Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced that Paul Overton of Yonkers was sentenced to a state prison term for assaulting a Westchester County Correction Officer in the county jail.

In January, a Westchester County jury convicted Overton of Assault in Second Degree, a class D felony, following a trial before Westchester County Court Judge David Zuckerman. Overton will serve five years in state prison followed by five years post-release supervision.

Background
On July 19, 2017, the defendant assaulted a Correction Officer at the Westchester County Jail. After failing to comply with numerous lawful orders, Overton intentionally caused injury to the officer by punching, biting and struggling with him.

Assistant District Attorney Joseph Servino of the Career Criminal Bureau prosecuted the case.
