Defendant: Rasheed Campbell (DOB 2/10/96)

July 25, 2019 — Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced the sentencing of Rasheed Campbell of the Bronx to three to five years in state prison.

Specifically, he was sentenced Wednesday (7/24) to the following:

• Assault in the Second Degree — 3 years in state prison and 5 years’ post-release supervision
• Two counts of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Third Degree — 2-4 years in state prison on each count and restitution for the victim and victim's insurance company

All sentences will run concurrently. Campbell pleaded guilty to those counts in June.

Background
On October 7, 2017, a Bronxville Police Officer attempted to initiate a car stop after recognizing a blue 2015 Toyota Camry that had been reported stolen. The vehicle did not stop and the driver lost control as he turned onto Bronxville Road. The vehicle went onto the sidewalk, struck another vehicle and stairs, and then overturned. The driver fled on foot and a blood sample found on the driver-side airbag was later traced to Campbell.

In a separate incident December 23, 2018, a Mount Vernon Police Officer located a reported stolen Mercedes-Benz in a parking lot. The officer approached and observed Campbell in the driver's seat. Campbell resisted arrest and injured the officer before he was taken into custody. Police then found 13 bags of marijuana in Campbell's underwear. The injured officer received surgery for a ruptured tendon in his right arm.

Assistant District Attorney Laura A. Forbes of the Investigations Division prosecuted the case.
