Defendant: Iran Colon (DOB 01/17/87)

July 2, 2019 -- Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced Iran Colon, a former Correction Officer who was employed by NY State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS), was sentenced to a term in state prison.

Specifically, he was sentenced to the following:

  • Promoting Prison Contraband in the First Degree, a class D felony – one to three years in state prison
  • Criminal Sexual Act in the Third Degree, a class E felony – one year in jail

The terms will run concurrently. Colon had pleaded guilty to the charges Nov. 7, 2018.

Background
New York State Police arrested Iran Colon, a correction officer based at the Taconic Correctional Facility in Bedford Hills, last May at his home on Staten Island. Following arrest, he was arraigned in Westchester County Court on a 19-count indictment stemming from illegal activities involving an inmate victim between May 1, 2017 and Sept. 23, 2017. Taconic Correctional Facility is a medium-security correctional facility in Bedford Hills that only houses women.

Assistant District Attorneys Laura Murphy, Chief of the Career Criminal Bureau, and Jennifer Sculco of the Public Integrity Unit prosecuted these crimes.

Note: Colon’s arrest with two other employees was the subject of a news conference May 4, 2018, at the District Attorney’s Office. Defendant Garth Trail is expected to be sentenced July 23.
