Defendant: Richard Johnson (DOB 09/08/82)

Jan. 15, 2020 -- Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced Richard Johnson of Mount Vernon was sentenced to state prison after being found guilty on weapons charges. A jury found Johnson guilty following a jury trial Dec. 2, 2019, before Westchester County Court Judge David Zuckerman.

Specifically, Johnson was sentenced to the following:

  • 1 count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a class C felony -- 8 years in state prison
  • 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, class D felonies -- 5 years in state prison on each count

All sentences to run concurrently (at the same time). His sentence includes 5 years of post-release supervision.

Background
On Aug. 16, 2018, Mount Vernon Police responded to a 911 call on Hussey Road saying there was a man with a gun. Police found Richard Johnson and a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun with the serial number defaced. Johnson was arrested at the scene. He was later indicted by a Westchester County Grand Jury.

Special Prosecutions Assistant District Attorney Janelle Armentano and Wendy Parra, Chief of the Domestic Violence Bureau, prosecuted the case.
