Defendant: Mario Mieles (DOB 02/20/1988)

Aug. 27, 2020 -- Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced Mario Mieles of Ossining will spend the next 14.5 years in state prison for shooting and wounding another man in Ossining in February 2019.

Mieles pleaded guilty on Feb. 11, 2020 to:

• Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, a class B felony
• Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a class C felony

Today, State Supreme Court Justice Barry Warhit sentenced him to two concurrent terms of 14.5 years in prison, followed by five years’ post-release supervision.

Background
On Feb. 10, 2019, at approximately 4:45 a.m. on Van Cortlandt Avenue in the Village of Ossining, the defendant, Mario Mieles, shot at a man nine times with a semi-automatic pistol, hitting him at least three times. The victim was taken to a hospital and survived, while Mieles fled the scene. The victim sustained life-altering permanent injuries. The victim and the defendant had known each other for years. Mieles surrendered to police Feb. 14, 2019.

The .40 caliber Smith and Wesson handgun was found near the crime scene by a civilian. The police were able to match the gun with the shell casings and other ballistics evidence.

Assistant District Attorney Lana Hochheiser, Deputy Chief of the Homicide Bureau, prosecuted the case.
