Defendant: Robert McCallion (DOB 04/12/85)

Aug. 10, 2020 -- Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced Robert McCallion of Ossining was indicted by a Westchester Grand Jury for stabbing and trying to kill a female high school student.

Specifically, a Westchester County Grand Jury handed up an indictment on 14 counts:

• Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, a class B felony.
• Attempted Murder in the Second Degree as a Hate Crime, a class B felony
• Two Assault in the First Degree, a class B felony
• Two Assault in the First Degree as a Hate Crime, a class B felony
• Two Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a class C felony
• Four Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, a class D felony
• Two Assault in the Second Degree, a class D felony

McCallion appeared before Judge David Zuckerman. He was remanded into custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 22, 2020.

Background
On March 13, 2020, Ossining Police were called to 217 North Highland Ave., an apartment complex, on a call of a man stabbing a girl. Upon arrival at the scene, police found Robert McCallion in the parking lot with blood on his hands and clothes. The police took McCallion into custody. The knife McCallion used to stab the teenaged victim was found at the scene. The police located the victim inside the apartment building with her family, where she was injured and bleeding profusely. The victim suffered multiple stab wounds to the face and back. The teen was taken to the hospital where she underwent surgery for her wounds. The victim was a stranger to the defendant.

McCallion is charged under the Hate Crime statutes based upon the evidence developed during the investigation. He lived with his father in the same Highland Avenue complex. Police located a number of weapons, including two loaded assault weapons in the defendant’s bedroom.

Assistant District Attorney Laura Murphy, Chief of the Career Criminal Bureau, and Assistant District Attorney Lana Hochheiser, Deputy Chief of the Homicide Bureau, are prosecuting the case.
