Sept. 19, 2013 -- Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore announced that Mario Vallorosi DOB (01/22/37) of 10 Udell Court, Cortlandt Manor, New York was arraigned today on an indictment charging him with:
- one count of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, a class “B” Violent Felony,
- two counts of Assault in the First Degree, class “B” Violent Felonies,
relating to the shotgun shooting of his 74 year old wife.
On June 15, 2013 at approximately 4:00 a.m., the defendant shot his wife at close range with a shotgun at their home on Udell Court in Cortlandt Manor.
Their adult son, who was also in the house at the time of the shooting, heard a noise and after investigating the noise and found his mother lying on a sofa in an upstairs computer room.
He called police.
State Police responded, gained access to and secured the house.
The victim was removed to Westchester Medical Center with severe injuries to her abdomen and chest from bird shot.
She remained in the hospital for 45 days and continues to be in serious condition at a nursing facility.
The defendant was arrested at the scene by New York State Police.
“After more than a half century of marriage the only way that this defendant could communicate with his wife was through violence. She had been a vibrant member of her community who enjoyed socializing and working with special needs school children, both of which seemed to be the catalyst for the defendant’s actions,” said District Attorney Janet DiFiore.
The defendant’s remand status is continued.
The defendant’s next court date is Dec. 5, 2013.
He faces a maximum sentence of twenty five years in state prison.
Assistant District Attorney Barbara Egenhauser, Chief of the Domestic Violence Bureau and Assistant District Attorney Joseph Barca III of the Special Prosecutions Division are prosecuting the case.
