Mount Vernon Man convicted in yonkers supermarket robbery and assault
Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore announced that Dormouth Carlton (DOB 10/07/70) of 14 North High Street, Mount Vernon, New York was convicted today after a jury trial on one count of Robbery in the First Degree, a class “B” Felony, three counts of Assault in the Second Degree, class “D” Felonies, and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, a class “D” Felony.
On April 16, 2008 at approximately 6:40 P.M., Yonkers police were called to 529 South Broadway on a report of a supermarket robbery and assault.
During the course of the investigation, it was determined that the defendant was seen shoplifting merchandise from the supermarket.
Once the defendant had passed all points of purchase, he was confronted by supermarket employees.
The defendant then produced a box cutter and began reacting violently.
A struggle commenced and, in spite of their being slashed numerous times, two of the employees were able to disarm and subdue the defendant, holding him until police arrived.
Immediately after the incident, the supermarket employees were taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital for emergency treatment.
Sentencing will be on January 07, 2009.
Assistant District Attorney Paula Branca-Santos, of the Superior Court Trial Division, and Assistant District Attorney Stephen Ronco prosecuted the case.
