New Rochelle woman SENTENCED FOR tampering

with physical evidence IN SERIAL RAPE CASE

 

 

Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore announced that Shushawana Barracks (DOB 05/23/85) of 80 Winthrop Avenue, New Rochelle, New York was sentenced today to a split sentence of three months of weekends in the Westchester County Jail and five years probation on her conviction after trial to one count of Tampering with Physical Evidence in the First Degree a class “E” Felony, one count of Resisting Arrest, a class “A” Misdemeanor and one count of Obstructing Governmental Administration, also a class “A” Misdemeanor.

 

On January 9th, 2008 the defendant poured laundry detergent and fabric softener on all of the seating surfaces of her 2007 Nissan Murano in an effort to destroy physical evidence pertaining to an ongoing rape investigation involving her live-in-boyfriend, Tyrone Haywood (DOB 08/19/76).

 

Hair from one of his victims was subsequently found in the vehicle.

 

Haywood was convicted after trial in October, 2008, on every count of a twelve count indictment in a May, 2007 rape in Mount Vernon, New York and a January, 2008 rape in the parking lot of Concordia College in Bronxville, New York.

 

He will be sentenced on December 11th, 2008.

 

He faces a maximum twenty five years in state prison for each rape.

 

Assistant District Attorney Heide Mason, Deputy Chief of the Sex Crimes Bureau, prosecuted both cases.
