Guilty Plea in Halloween Night shooting of mount vernon security guard
Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore announced that Nyanda Charley (DOB 02/19/89) of 224 Bradley Avenue, Mount Vernon, New York pled guilty today to one count of Murder in the Second Degree, a class “A” Felony relating to the death of Neville Webb.
On October 31, 2007 at approximately 8:45 p.m. the defendant and a group of friends were throwing eggs at cars as part of a Halloween prank.
The victim, working as a security guard at the Oakwood Gardens Apartments on East Lincoln Avenue in Mount Vernon, confronted the group in an effort to stop the prank and chase them from the property.
As Webb approached the group, Charley crept up from behind and shot Webb once in the head and once in the chest.
Webb was taken to Jacobi Medical Center in The Bronx where he later died.
Charley is scheduled to be sentenced on December 2, 2008.
Assistant District Attorneys John O’Rourke, Deputy Bureau Chief of the Homicide Bureau and Paula Branca-Santos, of the Superior Court Trial Division, prosecuted the case.
