SCHOOL BUS DRIVER ARRAIGNED

 ON NARCOTICS POSSESSION AND SALES

 

 

Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore and Mount Vernon Police Commissioner David Chong announced today that Michael Mayhew (DOB 05/28/57) of 70 South Third Avenue, Mount Vernon, New York has been arraigned on one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, a class “B” Felony, one count of Attempted Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, a class “C” Felony and one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fifth Degree, a class “D” Felony.

 

On Tuesday, September 4th, at approximately 5:00 P.M., after finishing his school bus route in the City of Mount Vernon, the defendant, a driver for Mile Square Transportation, Inc. was observed making an apparent drug sale.

 

The buyer was apprehended at the scene and Mayhew was subsequently placed under arrest outside of his Mount Vernon apartment.

 

When police searched Mayhew they discovered five rocks of cocaine and $148 dollars in his right sock.

 

A search of Mayhew’s Third Avenue apartment resulted in the seizure of two additional rocks of cocaine.

 

The arrests were made after a two week long joint investigation by the Mount Vernon Police Department and (W-DANI), the Westchester County District Attorney Narcotics Initiative.

 

Mayhew was remanded to the Westchester County Jail without bail.

 

His next court date is September 9th, 2008.

 

Mayhew faces a maximum of nine years in state prison on the top charge.

 

Assistant District Attorney Thomas Luzio, Chief of the Narcotics Bureau will prosecute the case.
