INDICTMENT UNSEALED IN THE INVESTIGATION

 INTO THE DEATH OF RENE PEREZ

 

 

 

Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore announced that a four count indictment was unsealed today in Westchester County Court as part of the investigation into the death of Rene Perez on April 28th, 2007.

 

George Bubaris (DOB 11/12/76) of South Salem, New York, is charged with one count of Manslaughter in the Second Degree, a class “C” Felony, one count of Unlawful Imprisonment in the First Degree, a class “E” Felony and two counts of Official Misconduct, class “A” Misdemeanors.

 

The indictment charges that Bubaris, a police officer in the Town of Mount Kisco, while on duty, exposed Mr. Perez to a risk of serious physical injury and recklessly caused his death.

 

Bubaris was arraigned on the indictment this morning.

 

Bail was set at $100,000 cash or bond.

 

His next court appearance will be on October 22, 2007.

 

The top charge, Manslaughter in the Second Degree, carries a maximum penalty of five to fifteen years in state prison.

 

First Deputy District Attorney Jim McCarty, Chief of Trial Operations, Assistant District Attorney Michael Hughes, Chief of the Public Integrity Bureau and Assistant District Attorney Perry Perrone, Chief of the Homicide Bureau, will be prosecuting the case.
