MOUNT VERnON MAN sentenced FOR killing




Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore announced that Dameon Bodie (DOB 09/04/80) of 20 Washington Boulevard, Mount Vernon, New York, was sentenced today to twenty years to life in state prison following a jury verdict on June 1, 2012 that found him guilty of :


  • one count of Murder in the Second Degree, a class “A-I” Felony,


relating to his actions which resulted in the death of Richard Reid.


On September 2, 2011, at approximately 11:15 p.m., in the vicinity of Franklin Avenue and Madison Street in the City of Mount Vernon, the defendant was walking with his girlfriend toward her house, located at 221 Franklin Avenue, when he encountered the victim.


The victim, 44 year old Richard Reid, and the defendant began to fight on the corner of Franklin Avenue and Madison Street, and progressed to 221 Franklin Avenue, half a block away.


The defendant slashed the victim multiple times about the body, specifically the neck area, resulting in the victim’s death.


A neighbor called 911 and the defendant’s girlfriend attempted to stop the bleeding on the victim, who was the father of her baby.


Mount Vernon Police arrived at the scene.


The defendant fled the scene and was taken by another person to Sound Shore Medical Center in New Rochelle for treatment of his injuries sustained in the homicide.


New Rochelle Police were called to the hospital after the defendant, who gave a false name initially, claimed he was the victim of a robbery.


Subsequently New Rochelle Police learned that a homicide involving the defendant had occurred earlier in Mount Vernon and an investigation began.


The defendant was arrested by Mount Vernon Police on September 3, 2011.


Assistant District Attorney John O’Rourke, Chief of the Major Case Bureau prosecuted the case.
