yonkers man pleads guilty in nodine hill fatal shooting


Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore announced today that Andrew Barnett (DOB 12/09/90) of 80 School Street, Yonkers, New York pled guilty to:


  • one count of Manslaughter in the First Degree, a class B Violent Felony,
  • one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a class C Felony.


On May 19, 2011, at approximately 9:40 pm, Yonkers Police responded to a reported shooting in the vicinity of 160 Willow Street in the Nodine Hill section of the city.


Upon their arrival, the officers found the victim, 21 year old Jhon Nunez-Lopez, who had been shot multiple times.


The victim spoke briefly to police before losing consciousness and was taken to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx where he was pronounced dead.


Police began canvassing the area and learned from an eyewitness that the defendant was someone he recognized as having frequented the neighborhood in recent months.


The two men argued before the defendant left and returned with a weapon and shot the victim several times.


The defendant was located in an apartment at 164 Willow Street and was arrested.


Barnett faces a maximum of twenty-five years in state prison when sentenced on August 14, 2012.


Assistant District Attorney Nadine Nagler of the Career Criminal Bureau and Assistant District Attorney Virginia Marciano of the Special Litigation Bureau are prosecuting the case.
