Croton kung fu instructor sentenced to state prison

 

 

Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore announced that Frank DeMaria (DOB 07/07/43) of 83 Van Cortlandt Avenue, Ossining, New York, was sentenced today to a determinate term of 7 years in state prison after a jury trial convicting him of:

 

·         three counts of Course of Sexual Conduct against a Child in the Second Degree, class “D” Violent Felonies,

·         two counts of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree, class “D” Felonies,

·         four counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, class “A” Misdemeanors,

 

relating to sexual touching involving four female child victims.

 

The defendant, an internationally known grand master of kung fu, owned and operated a martial arts school in Croton-on-Hudson where the victims were students.

 

The incidents took place between November 1, 2009 and January 6, 2011. 

 

Adults who were also students at the school initially reported to Croton Police that they saw the defendant take a young female student into a corner of his studio and observed the defendant’s hips make a gyrating motion. 

 

An investigation began and the defendant was arrested by Croton Police on January 14, 2011.J

 

Subsequently three additional victims came forward.

 

The four female child victims, who are now between the ages of 9 and 12, testified at trial that the defendant instructed them on more than one occasion to grab his penis and to squeeze and pull it repeatedly.

 

The defendant was also sentenced by the court to a term of five years post-release supervision and is required to register as a Sex Offender upon release from state prison.

 

Assistant District Attorney Christine Cervasio and Assistant District Attorney Courtney Johnson of the Special Prosecutions Division prosecuted the case.
